THE WAY WE LIVE AWARD

Gerry and Marie Miller have a cow/calf operation northwest of Buffalo, where they raised their children, Shawn and Heidi, instilling the western values of hard work, perseverance, respect for the land, and loyalty to their community.

Shawn and Heidi both have families of their own, and they are continuing on their family's legacy with Shawn, his wife RaeLynn, and their daughters, Kylie and Kenzie, living on the family place and working alongside Gerry and Marie.

Heidi and her husband, Thad, and their two children, Jayden and Kreyton live on Marie's family's ranch located in northeast Johnson County, where they run a cow/calf operation and heifer development program of their own.

Gerry and Marie have lived a life dedicated to agriculture that goes beyond their family operation. Marie has been a long-time member of Johnson County CattleWomen, participates in team penning competitions at the Johnson County Fair nearly every year, and served as a 4-H leader when her children were growing up in the program. Marie and Gerry make it a priority to attend all of the grandchildren's events, especially supporting them when they show their animals and projects at the Johnson County Fair.

Gerry was an ag teacher for over 30 years, passing on his knowledge of this industry and in the trades that are crucial to know to run a successful ranch. Gerry has shaped the future of not only his family, but countless young people of Johnson County, helping the agriculture industry in general, not just his own operation.
